Overview

Kathleen Whaley is a native Houstonian who joined Martin, Disiere, Jefferson & Wisdom in May 2026 with a strong background in personal injury law and complex litigation. Kathleen has represented a wide variety of clients ranging from global corporations to pro-bono individuals. In addition to actions involving personal injury and insurance defense, Kathleen also has experience with cases involving civil rights disputes, corporate shareholder disputes, and property rights disputes. Her legal career began at age sixteen when she devoted her summer to studying law at American University as a selected student participating in the National Student Leadership Conference’s Law & Advocacy Program. Inspired by her experience in the future lawyers program, Kathleen began interning at various intellectual property and litigation firms while earning her BA in Economics at Texas A&M University. Kathleen went on to earn her JD at South Texas College of Law where she primarily focused her studies on trial advocacy. While in law school, Kathleen maintained well-rounded legal skills by achieving limited recognition to practice before the USPTO, participating in national mock trial and moot court competitions, becoming certified in professional legal research, and earning her mediation certification. Today, Kathleen’s main area of practice is civil litigation and personal injury law. She has deposed over 100 witnesses, second-chaired two trials, and even managed to win her first solo trial in 2023. When she isn’t advocating for her clients, Kathleen spends her free time gardening, hiking across Texas, and volunteering at the Houston Food Bank.
