Michael McCoy

Mr. McCoy has practiced insurance law for over 40 years. He has handled a number of sophisticated insurance matters from a first party standpoint, including the representation of insurers and third party claims administrators in insurance policy disputes, along with representation in defense of bad faith and extra-contractual litigation. Mr. McCoy has also provided legal advice on insurance policy formation and interpretation of insurance policy terminology, in addition to occasionally serving as an expert witness in insurance related matters.

Mr. McCoy has a great deal of experience in third party insurance based representation, particularly in the professional liability area. Such experience has included representation of insurance brokers, both retail and wholesale. This representation has involved insurance cases as to the brokering and producing of insurance policies. Mr. McCoy has also represented parties in defense on construction defect litigation, premises liability litigation, related defense in products liability litigation, and defense of employment
related matters.

Mr. McCoy is also a credentialed mediator and arbitrator. Through his vast experience, he is able to bring a wealth of knowledge to negotiation during mediations to achieve an amicable resolution. As an arbitrator, Mr. McCoy has the experience and wisdom to listen closely to arguments of counsel and carefully weigh the evidence before writing and preparing a decision
or award.

Mr. McCoy is active in the Insurance and Construction Sections of the State Bar. He has previously been named in Best Insurance Lawyers, a Texas Super Lawyer, and one of H Magazine’s Outstanding Attorneys. He has been AV rated by Martindale Hubble Legal Directory for more than 30 years, and has previously written for and spoken at leading insurance seminars throughout the state.
