Overview

Our attorneys have represented non-profit associations and corporations, educational associations, intergovernmental risk pools, and national and Texas law enforcement coalitions and organizations in the preparation and filing of amicus curiae briefs in cases that shape the law affecting local governments, their employees, and the communities they serve.  Amicus briefs play a critical role in appellate advocacy by providing courts with broader legal, policy, and practical perspectives that may not be fully addressed by the parties, helping to ensure that judicial decisions account for their wider impact on the public, society, local governmental entities, and public servants. Our attorneys have filed amicus briefs with the Supreme Court of the United States, the Supreme Court of Texas, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit advocating on issues involving the Fourth Amendment, the Fourteenth Amendment, qualified immunity, civil rights, constitutional law, and the Texas Recreational Use Statute. By combining deep subject-matter knowledge with sophisticated appellate advocacy, we help clients influence the development of precedent and protect local governmental interests in cases of statewide and national significance.
