Vanessa R. Winton is an Associate in the Houston, Texas office of Martin, Disiere, Jefferson & Wisdom, L.L.P. Her practice focuses on first and third party litigation, insurance coverage issues, bad faith claims, and employment matters. Prior to joining Martin, Disiere, Jefferson & Wisdom, Ms. Winton represented employers and carriers in workplace law matters and in the defense of claims arising under the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensations Act (LHWCA), Defense Base Act (DBA), and Texas Workers’ Compensation Act. Prior to going to law school, Ms. Winton was a campus administrator in Texas’ largest public education system which serves large numbers of at-risk students, their families, and their communities. As a result of this rewarding work experience, Ms. Winton is uniquely positioned to understand the challenges to nonprofit organizations brought about by serving often marginalized populations of young people who need the most support.
Ms. Winton has a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1997 and a Masters of Education degree from the University of Houston in 2003. She graduated cum laude with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law Houston in 2014. She was awarded South Texas College of Law’s Dickerson-Moore Humanitarian Award, the Vinson & Elkins Public Interest Scholarship, the Jackson Lewis Scholarship, and the Houston Lawyer’s Association Scholarship.
Ms. Winton was admitted to the Texas Bar in May 2015. She is currently a member of the Houston Lawyers Association and Houston Bar Association. As a member of the Houston Bar Association, Ms. Winton serves on the Teach Texas Committee – a group of Houston-area attorneys who volunteer to teach lessons in Texas history to Houston-area middle school students.
